Learn MoreKauai International Airport (LIHUE ) is the largest airport in the State of Hawaii, located in Honolulu on the beautiful island of Oahu. From this central hub, travelers can easily access neighboring island airports, including Kahului Airport, Kapalua
Airport, and Hana Airport on Maui; Lihu’e Airport on Kaua’i; Kona International Airport, Hilo International Airport, and Waimea-Kohala Airport on the Big Island; Lana’i Airport on Lana’i; and Molokai Airport and Kalaupapa Airport on Molokai. The airport is named in honor of Hawaii’s late Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Serving in the U.S. Senate for over 49 years, he was the second-longest-serving member prior to his passing. As president pro tempore from 2010 to 2012—third in line of presidential succession—Senator Inouye was the highest-ranking public official of Asian descent in U.S. history. His long tenure included significant contributions to the Commerce and Appropriations Committees, where he played a crucial role in matters related to aviation, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Hawaii greatly benefited from his dedicated leadership.
