Kauai International Airport
(Kauai Airport - LIH)

The Airport Security Office at Kauai International Airport (LIH) works in close partnership with local law enforcement and the TSA to provide comprehensive security services.
The Airport Security Office at Lihue Airport (LIH) is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all passengers, visitors, and airport employees. Working in coordination with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and County of Kauai law enforcement, the office helps ensure that airport operations run smoothly and that safety protocols are consistently upheld.
Whether you have questions about airport safety, need to report a concern, or require assistance with a security-related issue, the Airport Security Office serves as the primary point of contact at LIH.
The Airport Security Office is located on the ground level of the main terminal, near airport administration and within close reach of baggage claim and passenger service areas.
Clear signage within the terminal directs passengers to the office, ensuring visitors can easily locate assistance when needed.
Hours of Operation:
Most services are available daily, with on-call security support 24/7 through airport operations and law enforcement partners.
Phone: (808) 274-3800
(General security assistance through LIH Airport Operations)
Emergency: Call 9-1-1
For non-urgent questions, travelers may also contact the Hawaii Department of Transportation – Airports Division (Kauai District) for general safety inquiries.
The Airport Security Office works closely with the County of Kauai Police Department, airport fire rescue, and TSA to respond to:
• Medical emergencies
• Suspicious activity
• Security threats
• Unattended baggage
Security personnel ensure rapid response anywhere in the terminal or airport grounds.
If you lose an item outside the TSA checkpoint (e.g., parking lots, restrooms, curbside, or terminal seating areas), the Security Office or Airport Operations can assist with:
• Filing a lost item report
• Checking recovered property
• Coordinating retrieval
Items lost past TSA screening must be handled through TSA’s Lost & Found system.
Staff can assist with:
• Airport safety guidelines
• Security checkpoint expectations
• Mobility assistance coordination
• Information on restricted areas and rules
They also provide clarification on prohibited items, airport behavior regulations, and traveler safety practices.
Passengers and employees are encouraged to report:
• Suspicious individuals
• Abandoned luggage
• Security violations
• Safety hazards
Reports can be made directly at the office or by contacting LIH Airport Operations.
The Airport Security team can help coordinate support for:
• Travelers with disabilities
• Unaccompanied minors (in coordination with airlines)
• Elderly passengers
• Those requiring special handling or escorts to designated access points
Lihue Airport is smaller than other Hawaiian airports, but during peak travel season—especially morning flights—lines may be long. Arrive 2 hours early for interisland flights and 3 hours early for mainland flights.
Report suspicious behavior or unattended bags immediately.
Obey posted instructions, comply with TSA officers, and keep identification ready to help maintain smooth operations.
With Lihue’s open-air layout, belongings can be easily forgotten or exposed to weather. Always double-check your carry-ons and valuables.
The Airport Security Office at Lihue Airport works in partnership with:
• TSA Lihue Checkpoint
• County of Kauai Police Department (Airport Detail)
• Kauai Fire Department – Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF)
• Hawaii Department of Transportation – Airports Division (Kauai District)
Together, these agencies maintain a safe and efficient travel environment for all LIH passengers.
