Daniel K. Inouye International Airport
(Honolulu Airport - HNL)
Unlike some international airports worldwide, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) does not currently provide on-site public baggage lockers or luggage storage services inside the terminal. Due to TSA security regulations and federal airport security requirements, unattended luggage storage is not permitted at HNL.
For travelers arriving early, departing late, or wishing to explore Oʻahu without carrying bags, this limitation may require advance planning. Fortunately, there are several convenient off-airport luggage storage options near HNL and throughout Honolulu.
1. Hotel Concierge Luggage Storage
Many Honolulu hotels — especially in Waikīkī, Ala Moana, and Ko Olina — offer complimentary or low-fee luggage storage for guests both before check-in and after check-out. If you are staying in a hotel during your Oʻahu visit, contact the front desk to confirm luggage storage availability. Hotels commonly offering bag storage include:
• Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort – Waikīkī
• Sheraton Waikīkī
• Prince Waikīkī – Ala Moana harbor area
• The Kahala Resort
Guests do not need to be checked in yet to utilize storage at most hotels.
2. Luggage Storage Apps & Third-Party Services
Apps like Bounce, LuggageHero, and Vertoe partner with local businesses such as retail shops, coworking spaces, tour offices, and hotels to offer per-hour and per-day storage options. Popular storage zones near HNL include:
• Ala Moana
• Waikīkī
• Downtown Honolulu
• Pearl Harbor visitor center area (select operators)
Travelers can search by location, make a reservation digitally, and securely drop bags at participating locations.
3. Car Rentals as Temporary Storage
Travelers planning to rent a car may find it practical to store their luggage in the vehicle while exploring the island prior to hotel check-in or after checkout. The Consolidated Rent-A-Car (CONRAC) Facility located adjacent to HNL houses major rental brands with shuttle service from all terminals. A rental car provides flexibility and secure storage while exploring nearby sights such as:
• Pearl Harbor National Memorial
• Aloha Stadium Marketplace (seasonal events/shopping)
• Ala Moana Center
• Waikīkī beachfront areas
• Plan Ahead for Early Arrivals or Late Departures — Consider whether your hotel, rental provider, or tour operator can store bags before arrival at HNL.
• Keep Valuables on You — Regardless of the storage method, always keep passports, electronics, medication, jewelry, and cash in a personal bag rather than checked storage or parked vehicles.
• Coordinate with Tour Companies — Many Oʻahu tour operators allow guests to bring carry-on luggage aboard vans or store bags temporarily while touring. Confirm in advance.
• Use Seating Areas When Waiting at the Airport — If you choose to wait at HNL until check-in opens, note that most airline counters begin accepting bags 3–4 hours before departure.
Although Daniel K. Inouye International Airport does not offer on-site public baggage lockers or storage, travelers still have multiple alternatives near the airport and across Honolulu:
• Hotel concierge storage
• Luggage storage apps and partner locations
• Rental cars as mobile storage
• Select tour companies that accept luggage
A little pre-planning makes it easy to enjoy Oʻahu — from Waikīkī beaches to historical Pearl Harbor — without carrying heavy bags.
