Kahului International Airport
(Maui Airport - OGG)
The Pass and ID Office at Kahului International Airport (OGG) is responsible for issuing and managing airport security credentials for individuals and vehicles requiring access to OGG’s secure and restricted areas. Operated under the Hawaii Department of Transportation – Airports Division, Maui District, and following all Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulatory requirements, the office plays a critical role in maintaining safety and security across airport operations.
Airport employees, contractors, vendors, and other authorized personnel must obtain proper identification through the OGG Pass and ID Office before entering any restricted zone of the airport.
Security badges are required for all personnel who need access to non-public, restricted, or operational areas of Kahului Airport. Badge types at OGG typically include:
• Sterile Area Access – Required for workers operating past TSA checkpoints.
• Ramp & Airfield Access – For ground crews, maintenance, fueling, baggage handlers, and operations personnel.
• SIDA Badges (Security Identification Display Area) – For individuals working near aircraft, taxiways, and sensitive airside locations.
All applicants must complete TSA-mandated background checks and security training before receiving a badge.
Temporary credentials may be issued for short-term operational needs, such as:
• Contractors performing maintenance or construction
• Vendors making scheduled deliveries
• Visitors attending authorized meetings or inspections
Types of temporary access provided:
• Single-Day Visitor Passes
• Escort-Required Passes, allowing escorted access under supervision of a badged sponsor
All temporary credentials require advance planning and authorization.
Any vehicle entering OGG’s restricted airside or perimeter-controlled zones must have a valid airport-issued permit.
Eligible vehicles include:
• Ground service equipment
• Fueling trucks
• Maintenance and facility service vehicles
• Authorized vendor vehicles
Permits must be clearly displayed whenever operating within restricted areas.
Businesses operating at OGG—including airlines, concessions, custodial services, rental car companies, cargo operators, and retail vendors—must ensure employees receive appropriate airport identification.
These badges:
• Are restricted to authorized work zones
• Require employer sponsorship
• Require completion of background checks and training
Visitor passes may be issued for:
• Pre-approved media access
• Government or VIP visits
• Academic or aviation-related educational visits
• FAA/TSA official business
These passes generally require advance coordination and are valid only for limited, escorted use.
Only applicants sponsored by an employer authorized to operate at OGG may apply for an airport badge.
Applicants must submit:
• Completed badge application
• Valid government-issued identification
• Employer authorization forms
Required TSA assessments include:
• Security Threat Assessment (STA)
• Fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)
• Applicable authorization for the access level requested
Applicants must complete security training covering:
• Airport safety principles
• Access control
• Proper badge use
• TSA security rules
Upon approval and training completion, applicants will receive instructions for picking up their badge in person.
Badges must always be worn visibly above the waist in all secure areas. Failure to comply may result in badge suspension or revocation.
